This page explains how to request that your Find Your Hangout account and associated personal data are permanently deleted. This is the account-deletion request process for the Find Your Hangout Android / iOS app listed on Google Play and the App Store.
How to request account deletion
- Open your email app and start a message to privacy.findyourhangout@gmail.com.
- Use the subject line: Find Your Hangout account deletion request.
-
Include in the body:
- The email address on your Find Your Hangout account (or confirm you use Google Sign-In / guest)
- Your display name and @handle if you know them
- The phrase: “Please delete my Find Your Hangout account and associated data.”
- Send the email from the same address linked to your account when possible, so we can verify the request.
- We will confirm by email when deletion is complete (usually within 7 days; backups may take up to 30 days to fully purge).
Email account deletion request
Deleting your account cannot be undone. You will lose access to your profile, follows, plans, chats, and other account data.
Data that is deleted
When we fulfill an account deletion request, we delete or anonymize:
- Your user profile (name, handle, bio, photo, mood, presence settings)
- Authentication account linkage for Find Your Hangout
- Location history stored on your profile
- Follow / follower relationships and follow requests
- In-app notifications addressed to you
- Hangout plans you solely own (or your membership / invites on shared plans)
- Chat membership and messages attributable to your account where feasible
- Push notification tokens, contact phone hashes, and device preference docs we store for you
- Blocks, reports, ratings, venue reviews, and expense records tied to your user id where they are not required for another user’s ledger integrity (those may be anonymized)
Data that may be kept (and for how long)
- Security & abuse logs (e.g. limited server logs): up to 90 days, then deleted or aggregated.
- Backups of our databases: typically purged or overwritten within 30 days.
- Legal / safety records if we are required to retain them by law or to handle an active dispute or safety investigation.
- Content others still need (for example a hangout another person hosts that you once joined) may remain with your identity removed or replaced by “Deleted user” where appropriate.
- Data processed by Google Firebase / Google Maps under their own retention practices for infrastructure (see our Privacy Policy).
Want to delete some data but keep your account?
You can request deletion of specific personal data without closing your account. See Delete data (keep account).
